Tremaine Aldon Neverson was born on November 28, 1984 in Richmond, Virginia to April Turker and Claude Neverson Jr. Trey was raised as a military brat, but his family made Petersburg, Virginia home. Treys parent's relationship did not work out, so therefore Trey was raised primarily by his mother and grandmother. Growing up Trey did not have a good relationship with his father.

As Trey was growing up, he had more of an interest in rap music than R&B music. The only R&B artist that he really enjoyed listing to was R.Kelly. By the age of 14 Trey's mother talked him into doing talent shows because she saw his talent before he did. Trey won his 1st competition along with several other competitions. All together Trey has 19 trophies from talent shows. At the age of 15, Trey met his future manager, Troy Taylor. Troy had worked with acts such as Boys II Men and Lionel Richie. After graduating school in 2002, Trey moved to New Jersey with Troy to start working on demos for his debut album. Here is where Trey came up with his stage name, Trey Songz. Trey would write on the cases of his demo tapes, "Trey Songz" in which the name stuck and became his stage name. While Trey lived in New Jersey, Troy taught Trey the history of music and broaden his interest in music. Trey's mom told him he had one year to receive a record deal, or he will have to move back to Petersburg and live a "normal" life.

Trey did not receive his record deal after one year, but he received it the second year. In 2003/2004, Trey earned his record deal with Atlantic Records, and he began his work on his debut album, I Gotta Make It. Also in 2003/2004, Trey and Troy came up with their production company, Songbook. In 2005, Trey released his first single off his debut album, "Gotta Make It" feat. Twista. The single reached #87 on the Billboard 100 chart.

July 26, 2005, Trey's debut album was released. I Gotta Make It debut at #20 on the Billboard 200, and had two successful singles, "Gotta Make It" and "Gotta Go." Also in 2005, Trey was featured on hit songs such as Twista's "Girl Tonight" and Jim Jone's "Summer Wit Miami." After promotion for "I Gotta Make It," Trey began work on his sophomore album, "Trey Day."

On October 2, 2007, Trey released his second album, Trey Day. Trey's second single off of 'Trey Day," "Can't Help but Wait" earned him his first Grammy nomination for Best Mail R&B Vocal Performance. He also went on to release other hits such as "Last Time" and "Missing You." Between Trey's two albums, he released multiple mixtapes and contributed to songs to soundtracks such as, Step Up. By the time Trey started to work on his third and most anticipated album yet, his fan base had grown by the millions. He started to show his fans a lot of appreciation by having contests, produced more mixtapes, and did a lot of U-Stream and Say Now to talk to fans.

During 2010, Trey took part in his biggest tour yet, The Blue Print 3 Tour. He also made his film debut in "Preachers Kid." He is also won his first award at the 2010 BET Awards.
